Thinking out loud

I have no idea as to what I am doing. I don't know the first thing about blogs or blogging.
I am reading Rebellion by Tim Harris. Its subtitle is Britain's First Stuart Kings. It is something of a study of constitutional history of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1567 to 1642. It is interesting.
I am also reading In Plain Sight about Jimmy Savile. It is a terrible book about a terrible person. The book is a waste of time. So why am I reading it? It must be my OCD that prevents me from abandoning it.
During the summer I read The Race Beat about the press treatment of race in the USA. Fascinating. And it complemented Greg Isle's book Natchez Burning, set in Mississippi and Louisiana and quite a good thriller and an incidental treatment of racism. Recommended. It has elements in common with James Lee Burke's Robicheaux crime novels set in Iberia parish in New Orleans. I love them, none more than Tin Roof Blowdown, set during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
I also read a wonderful study of Homer during the summer. It's called The Mighty Dead by Adam Nicholson and sent me back to the Iliad with better understanding and appreciation.
My Irish reading in the summer included the two volume biography of John Redmond by Meleady and 1916 and The Irish Rebellion by Charles Townshend. Redmond is a hard slog but Townshend is fresh and well written while having no great new insights.
I must learn a bit about adding photographs and links.
